About
In 2018 Ruth Mollison started Island Seeds, a small Tasmanian business collecting native Tasmanian seeds from the bush.
Island Seeds has grown from a love of the Tassie bush and its inhabitants. Planting back the native vegetation into urban gardens puts back a missing links with the bush. Island Seeds collaborates with Landcare Tasmania, Plants of Tasmania and the Understorey Network.
Ruth grew up on the foothills of Kunanyi. After obtaining a Masters in Degree in Applied Science, Ruth was employed in science-based jobs ranging from a laboratory technician to a Waterwatch coordinator. Her love of seed collecting began while coordinating the Understorey Network, a community-based nursery and seedbank that focuses on preserving and restoring native habitat. She believes there is nothing better than wandering around the bush observing the small things. Ruth has spent a lifetime honing her knowledge and skills of collecting, storing, and propagating native Tasmanian seeds.
